Why Adjunctive EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most researched and validated treatment modalities to address many mental health issues including Posttraumatic Stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and Substance Use disorders. In order to provide EMDR as a treatment, clinicians need to undergo extensive training which can be time-consuming and costly. By using Adjunctive EMDR, primary therapists can partner with an EMDR-trained therapist who provides EMDR treatment without interrupting the established therapeutic process.
What is EMDR?
“EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.” -EMDR International Association
