Child Therapy

You are never too young for therapy! Child therapy is designed to bring out the best in kids by working with parents and children to build self-esteem, improve communication, promote healthy development, and enhance emotional vocabulary. Therapy with children involves using play and art to allow kids to communicate in a way that is familiar to them and appropriate for their developmental level!

What is Child Therapy?
Child therapy is for anyone under the age of 18. Sessions can differ dependent on the age and needs of the client. For our youngest kiddos (0-4), therapy often focuses on supporting parents in gaining skills to support the client at home. For our elementary age clients, therapists will integrate play, artistic expression, and stories to support the client in navigating emotions and experiences. Therapy for middle school and high school age clients more heavily focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the client. While parents are still involved and encouraged to support therapeutic work at home, the client will often see the therapist alone to encourage feelings of autonomy and privacy in the client. While these are general guidelines, your therapist will determine the best approach not only based on the child's age but on their progress with completing developmental tasks.

Benefits of Child Therapy
Therapy at a young age can be incredibly impactful! Going to therapy will help foster emotional attunement and coping skills while the child's brain is still developing, making it more likely that this early therapeutic intervention will have a lasting impact. Therapy will
focus on resolving conflict, developing new parenting skills, understanding and managing thoughts and feelings, navigating change, and thinking of new solutions to daily problems.
