Need a mental escape? Can’t afford a vacation, but could really use a break?
Let’s find your Calm Place!
Here’s how it works:
Find a quiet place where you can get comfortable, with limited distractions.
Close your eyes and try to visualize a place that evokes feelings of peace, safety and tranquility. This could be a place you’ve been before, or a place you’ve only imagined.
In your mind, explore the details of this peaceful place. What are the sights, sounds, smells?
What can you touch or taste? Example: Beach (I feel the sand, and taste the salty air, I hear the seagulls and the waves…)
Notice any positive emotions or sensations that exist for you in this calm place. Do you want to give it a name?
Practice this technique! The more you use it, the stronger the visualizations will become, just like exercising a muscle at the gym.
This Calm Place is your tool to use anytime you’re needing to combat stress, anxiety, and other big emotions.
Like this technique? It’s an EMDR technique that helps to heal from trauma and big emotions. Contact us to book an appointment with an EMDR therapist today!
